The Resource Development & Community Engagement Specialist plays a key role in advancing Community HousingWorks’ fundraising goals by building community-driven support and donor engagement. This position supports the Advancement team’s annual revenue strategy through peer-to-peer fundraising, donor communications, giving campaigns, and fundraising events while leveraging community engagement activities as meaningful opportunities to cultivate donors and partners.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Resource Development & Operations, this role serves as the lead for CHW groundbreakings and opening celebrations, ensuring these moments are strategically designed to strengthen relationships, expand CHW’s donor base, and support long-term fundraising goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Donor Engagement:
- Develop and lead peer-to-peer and community-based campaigns using digital platforms and direct community engagement.
- Manage donor affinity events, including logistics, communications, and follow-up.
- Identify, cultivate, and support community leaders and volunteers as peer fundraisers and ambassadors.
- Identify and cultivate new donors through proactive community outreach and engagement.
- Manage direct mail appeals, including goal-setting, tracking performance, and reporting results.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Resource Development & Operations to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan and calendar.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Resource Development & Operations to successfully execute CHW’s annual DreamBuilder Gala.
- Partner with the Marketing & Communications Team to promote fundraising campaigns across digital platforms and increase donor participation.
Community Engagement (Fundraising-Focused):
- Collaborate across departments to align community events with Advancement goals.
- Lead the planning and execution of CHW, groundbreaking and opening celebrations with a clear fundraising and relationship-building lens.
- Manage all logistics, timelines, and stakeholder coordination for groundbreakings and opening celebrations.
- Identify and pursue community engagement opportunities that increase CHW’s visibility and generate donor, partner or funder leads.
- Deliver quarterly presentations and community outreach activities that raise awareness and encourage philanthropic involvement.
- Integrate peer-to-peer fundraising into community events by launching localized campaigns, engaging volunteers, and identifying new donor prospects.
- Analyze engagement from community events and follow up on opportunities that advance the department's fundraising strategy.
Education and Experience:
- BA degree or equivalent with three to five years of resource development (fundraising) experience.
- Demonstrated experience with fundraising database software (Raiser’s Edge Preferred.)
- Demonstrated attention to detail, managing multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations, and to interact confidently with donors, staff, volunteers, and vendors at all levels internally and externally
- Ability to take initiative in identifying and solving practical problems.
- Team-focused individuals who embrace our mission, overall department goals, and its successes.
- Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and business writing skills.
- Flexible with hours based on department needs – may require nights and weekends.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) plus Internet research.
Physical Abilities:
The physical ability to perform tasks may require prolonged sitting, standing, and/or moving.
Moves throughout the various office spaces, occasionally in outdoor spaces, and builds to access community properties. Involves moving on surfaces of various inclinations and ground textures.
Moves equipment weighing between 20-40 pounds without assistance. Moves more than 40 pounds with assistance.
This role requires inspection of sites and areas at varying degrees of distance.
